Mulling It Fall Over

I admit it. I am anxious for fall. It's probably my favorite season by far. I enjoy the blossoms in spring, swimming weather in summer and cozy fires in winter. But there is something about fall that is the perfect blend of apple cider, pumpkins, scarves and hay rides.

I love school carnivals in fall, harvest parties, carving pumpkins and corn mazes. But most of all, I delight in being able to start making some of those heavier dinner and desserts such as chili, potato soup in a bread bowl and carmel apples - you know, the dishes that are just too hot for summer? Anyway...

With that in mind, please indulge me as I share some of my favorite fall recipes:

Beef Stew

Peach Cobbler

Chili

Plan A Picnic!

Hello June! I love the warmer weather we're enjoying here in the Northwest, USA. It's finally nice enough to send the kids outside without checking for coats, hats, mittens and other warming accessories. And...it's perfect picnic weather!

There is something wonderfully alluring, fresh and zesty about eating outdoors, whether in your own backyard or away from home at a park, forest or by the lake. If you access to any of these type of areas, I highly encourage you to try some of our picnic perfect recipes and get outdoors!

(There is also nothing wrong with picnicing on a blanket in your living room if you live in an area where it's rainy or just beginning the cold season - this can be a great activity for entertaining little ones too!)

Awesome Apple Recipes in August

One of my family's favorite fruits is the APPLE! Why? It is sweet, but not too sweet. Apples satisfy that sugar craving and fill you up at the same time - fiber rocks! Apples are multi-purpose foods. Add them to a salad for some extra crunch and munch or add them to a grilled k-bob or as steak garnishment for a fruity zing of flavor.

And right now is the perfect time of year to stock up on your apple supply! In my neck of the woods we are blessed to have many local orchards within a 30 - 40 mile radius where I can go to literally take my pick. Fun huh? Yes, apples are nature's little fruity treasure to us. And speaking of treasures, here are a few traditional Apple recipes to taste your way through!

Amish Dinner Party

If you have followed the blog since I started writing for Annie's Recipes, you know I love themed menu plans and themed food dinner parties. This week I thought it would be fun to put together an Amish Recipe themed menu plan, just in case you are expecting the Amish to drop buy, or even if you're not!

The Amish recipes in our archives share a few factors in common that I find attractive in a recipe: easy to prepare, simple ingredients (mostly), fresh takes on old favorites, and a flavorful twist on familiar foods. I hope you enjoy these as much as my family does! Find us on Facebook and share your favorite Amish dish or visit Annie's Recipes for more Amish love.
